Many thanks for sharing.
Fr. Alwyn has been celebrating his 60th Anniversary of his ordination all year long. He started in California, where he resides, and then he made a trip to Zanzibar and had another celebration there. His older brother Lenny lives with his wife and their son Andrew, and their two children in Jambiani, Zanzibar. He said Mass at their place.
Fr. Alwyn keeps in touch with me. He is a frequent visitor to Zanzibar and we've met there. He took us to meet the Bishop. I always wanted to see the inside lounge upstairs, but I only went as far as the office in the past. The old building is still the same. Downstairs, where they sold rosaries etc, is still a shop. The library room opposite is being renovated. There used to be a carpentry room on the girls' side, which is now the children's Nursery school. The creepy room where they stored the manual-driven hearse is a kitchen for the kids.
There is a whole new building behind the sacristy where the nuns live. A canteen is near the sacristy serving snacks and meals.
Fr. Alwyn's family originally came from Bombay, where he was born. So he goes there in Bandra frequently, too. A celebration was held there earlier last month.
The one we attended was in Goa, Holy Spirit Church in Margao. There were not many Zanzibaris. If you look at the photo I sent, the guy on the left is Peter Almeida. I don't remember him. They had a bakery near the meat market. Next to him is his wife. On the right is Dominic Rosario, cousin to Magdalen Rosario Lenny's wife. Magdalen's sister, the late Anna, was in my class. Pemba people. Dominic told me he came to Zanzibar from Pemba in 64 and then lived in the house where Bruno Pereira lived. He is not in the group photo. Next is Philo Antao, the sister of Anthony. She married Anton Pemba, now deceased, brother to the late Fernando.
